Fall 2009 The beach is starting to set up nicely for the reds in the surf zone, found a few schools today, the fish were hitting Yo-Zuri Hydro Pencils and Gamakatsu jigs with Big Bite Bait shrimp on. Lots of action.
Ventured out in the sound to try for a few Specks with a good buddy and found some nice pound and a half to two pounders, caught them on 52 MR Mirro-Lure all day.
The King Mackerel bite was on fire today out at the Cape, lot's of big kings being caught. Rick got a hold of a nice "citation" fish 31.5 pounds. The fish were skying out of the water after the pogies, it was pretty awesome to see them this active.
The bite offshore has started to pick up, nice Spanish in the 3 to 4 pound and up range, Flounders on the live bottoms and the big Kings should be showing up soon. When the Kings get here, watch out because the action is incredible. The "Reef Donkey's" are around and some kind of fun, this one got eaten at the boat by an 8' tiger shark.
If you are looking for an awesome time fishing for REDS, now is it! The beach is loaded up with them along the shoals. I mean some big fish, if you can troll along the beach and site cast for them, I tell you it doesn't get any better. Or you can park the boat and walk over and look for them, both ways make for a great time. Finger mullets on a Carolina rig with a circle hook will do the trick, or a quarter ounce Gamakatsu jig with a Big Bite Bait shrimp will produce some nice strikes
Don't let the cool weather fool you, Fall fishing has really staarted to come into action. The Redfish are chasing bait in the "backwaters" and the bite has been pretty good. There are lot's of slot fish with a few over the slot mixed in. Summer 2009
More hot summer action, lot's of bait inside the waterway and creeks as well as out at the ABC buoys. Load up with Pogies and Cigar Minnows and head offshore and get ready. I had a serious fisherman onboard today (Carter) and he landed this nice Cobia, although only 31 1/2 inches it sure put up a good fight for about 20 minutes, we took a few pics and released him back to get bigger for next year. The weather is hot and so is the fishing here along the Crystal Coast. We have been putting our clients on some great fish this summer and it has been awesome. The King Mackerel bite is in full swing with lot's of schooling fish around the area. There is a good sign of bait on the inside waterways and lots of cigar minnows and thread hearing out at the alphabet buoys. The Mahi-Mahi have come close to the beach and many anglers are landing a few each day, which really makes for a great meal that night. I have heard of a few Sails out there, but I have not seen one yet, but I am definitely ready to put a bait on one. The Flounders are on the live bottoms and are feeding on SPRO bucktails with a Big Bite Bait shrimp, I like the white shrimp, they have a great scent to them and last a lot longer than the competition. The Reds are feeding inside, live shrimp is the ticket this time of year on a Billy Bay popping cork will do the trick. April/May 2009
The fishing has really picked up along the coast here this month. The Spanish and Bonito have shown up and lot's of fish are being caught from Cape Lookout to New River. The Yo-Zuri's lures are doing very well with these fish, trolling at about 4 to 6 mph works really well. A few Kings have shown up with the temps getting warmer, it will not be long and we should have plenty, the Yo-Zuri's will attracked them too, especially this time of year. The Hatteras Blues are in the area as well, and they will hit just about anything you throw at them, make sure you use a wire leader or you will lose everything you throw at them...Some big Red's are hanging out along the beach and in the bays in the backwaters, with the warmer temps the topwater baits are starting to work and the trusty ole Bett's Popping cork with a Big Bite Bait shrimp on the end works well. The Cobia are out along Cape Lookout shoals and anglers are finding them in big numbers, if you can find some live bait that works best, but throwing different topwaters and really light Gamakatsu jigs with shrimp or pogie on them will attracked them too. There are a few doormat Flounder on the live bottoms as well, as the temps get warmer they will get closer to the beach and backwaters. February/March 2009
The weather is warming up and so is the water, The water temp was in the high 50's almost 60 today, and the REDS were hungry. We fished several spots today using all types of baits. We ended up doing the best in a little hidden bay behind the barrier islands. The fish really hit the spinner baits today. All of the fish caught today were upper slot limit fish with several an inch or two over. We ended up with two very nice fish that's aggregate was 13.40 pounds, not too bad, would have had you in the top 5. All in all a great day, give us a call at 910-787-2500 to book your next trip. January 2009
Happy New Year!!! It was a beautiful day to ring in the New Year. The wind got just right along the beach and the surf was small. A good friend of mine Jeff Cronk gave me a call and wanted to know if I wanted to jump on and go fishing. Of course I accepted. We headed out the inlet and raced down the beach to the spot we knew would be holding some Reds. Well sure enough they were there, a few guys were wading in the surf trying for them too. We eased into a good spot and set the anchor and it was on. Cast after cast we were hauling in some nice 'pups'. After a solid hour of catching fish we decided to check some other spots, the water was churned up so it made it kind of difficult to spot the Reds, so we headed home. It should be really good conditions from January to March for catching the Reds in the surf zone, or in the backwaters.
